Jamil Hammoudi

Jamil Hamoudi graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Baghdad, in 1945. In 1947, he went to Paris where he followed courses at the École Nationale des Beaux Arts, Académie Julian, École du Louvre and Faculté des Lettres at Université de Paris. By reverting to the abstraction of the arabesque, the spirituality found in Arabic calligraphy and modern European aesthetics, Hamoudi unites his Eastern heritage with his Western training.
