Mohamed Ben Meftah

Tunisia, b.1946

Painter and master engraver, Mohamed Ben Meftah trained at École des Beaux Arts in Tunis (1966) followed by École Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris (1966-70) and the studio of Robert Cane where he apprenticed in lithography and engraving, with a stay at Cité International des Arts (1973). In 1974 he became professor of graphic design at the Technical Institute of Art and Architecture and City Planning in Tunis. His tortuous human figures intertwine to form disturbing floating cerebral compositions that challenge the imagination of the viewer.
