Safeya Binzagr

Saudi Arabia, b.1940

Born in Jeddah and began her education in Cairo, later completing her secondary education in England. In 1976, she earned a diploma in Fine Art and Graphics from Saint Martin’s School of Art in London. She is a member of the Saudi Arabian Society for Culture and Arts, and a founding member of the House of Artists in Jeddah. She is renowned for her documentation of folklore and social, cultural, and architectural aspects of Jeddah and the Hijaz region in her artwork. Her first exhibition was held in 1968.In 1995, she established “Dar Safia Bin Zagr,” a cultural center for her artworks, cultural collection, studio, and artistic and literary library. In 2017, King Salman bin Abdulaziz honored Safia Bin Zagr for her contributions to the Saudi art and cultural movement with the King Abdulaziz Medal of the First Class.
