Shawkat Roubai
Iraq, b.1940-2024
He studied at the Institute of Fine Arts and graduated in 1963 with a specialization in painting. After his graduation, he founded the “South Group” in the city of Amara to serve as a platform for visual arts in southern Iraq. He participated in many exhibitions between 1970 and 1973.In 1975, he played a significant role in founding the Art Critics Association (IKA) and continued his artistic activity in Iraq and the Arab world. He participated in group exhibitions at the Iraqi Artists’ Union and the Iraqi Fine Artists Association. In 1990, he received the Creative Arts Award from the Ministry of Information and Culture in collaboration with the Iraqi Artists’ Union.
