Wasma Chorbachi
Iraq, b.1944
After training in art at the Beirut College for Women (presently Lebanese American University) and the Accademia di Belle Arte in Florence, Wasma Chorbachi went to Harvard University where she took her Ph.D. in Islamic art history in 1990. She has settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she paints, writes, lectures and works on her ceramics. In her ceramics she link up Islamic calligraphy and decorations with contemporary firing techniques.
