About

Join us in the next meetup of “Hiwar Art Club” for a talk and open discussion titled: “Preserving the Legacy of Artist Mahmoud Hammad”, with our guest speaker architect Lubna Hammad the manager of the collection of her father late artist Mahmoud Hammad.
The Syrian multi-disciplinary artist Mahmoud Hammad (1923 – 1988) was a painter, printmaker, medal engraver and sculptor. Considered one of the founding pioneers of Arab abstraction and modern Syrian art, Hammad explored a number of themes, subjects, and techniques throughout his career, depicting Arabic letterforms, figures, landscapes, and murals.
Managing the collection of the family of her father, the late Syrian artist Mahmoud Hammad since 2009, Lubna Hammad, has worked on documenting Hammad’s complete oeuvre, in addition to recording the historical periods and events of the modern art movement in Syria during the twentieth century, with a focus on Damascus in particular.
The talk will be in Arabic.
