Mohammed Melehi

Morocco, b.1936-2020

Mohamed Melehi  graduated from Escuela de Bellas Artes in Tetouan (1955).  He then went to New York on a Rockfeller Foundation scholarship (1962-64) training in art and doing research.  Upon his return to Morocco, he became a teacher at Casablanca’s École des Beaux Arts (1964-69).  A member of the Casablanca School in art, Melehi succeeded in reaching a synthesis between visual traditional Islamic art forms and contemporary expression.
