Mona Zaalouk

Mona Zaalouk read English literature at the American University in Cairo graduating in 1967 then studied theatre directing at the same university (1967-69). A prolific self –taught abstract artist, Zaalouk treated her compositions as if they were her secure private cocoons. She courageously tackled her surfaces with large areas of black allowing few openings towards the outside, where light could intrude.
