Abdelaziz Gorgi

Tunisia, b.1928-2008

One of the pioneers of Tunisian modern art, Abdel Aziz Gorgi completed École des Beaux Arts in Tunis then trained in ceramics at the Atelier Plisson in Paris and attended the studio of Fernand Leger.  Pedagogue, painter and ceramist he became president of the art group, Tunis School, in 1969. His linear compositions in painting, drawing and weaving, attest to a mastery of the pen and great control of line with a minimal use of colour and total abandonment of detail.
