Aicha Filali has a Ph.D. in history of art. A specialist in traditional textile and rug design, her statues are made up of organic materials including baked earth, wood, glass and found metal pieces. Through her distorted mask-like figures she mocks society’s hypocrisy and sarcastically exposes its superficiality.
