Awad El Shimy

Egypt, b.1949

Awad Shimi got his Ph.D. from the College of Fine Arts in Cairo where he teaches engraving. His graphic works are inspired by the history of the Mamluke Dynasty in Egypt, (14th and 15th centuries), where he depicts materials such as wood, metal, and fabric in a precise naturalistic manner yet leaves human figures out of the composition in a ghost like manner, hence giving the work a strong surrealistic appearance.
