Kamala Ibrahim

Sudan, b.1939

She is considered a pioneering figure in the Sudanese art scene. She was one of the first women artists to graduate from the College of Fine Arts in Khartoum in 1963. Her degree enabled her to further her education at the Royal College of Art in London from 1964 to 1966. Afterward, she decided to return to Sudan to teach art and bring a new critical perspective to the Khartoum School, which dominated the country’s art scene at that time. She participated in group exhibitions and contributed to various artistic fields.
