Mohamed Hedi Labban

A graduate of École des Beaux Arts in Tunis (1966-1970), Labban continued his art training at the École Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris (1971-75), specializing in etching. Meanwhile he got a Ph.D. in fine arts from Sorbonne University (1976) after which he taught art education in Benzert and Bajeh in Tunisia (1976-81). Labban is a distinguished graphic artist whose subjects are inspired by local folk traditions and popular myths and taboos, executed in an expressive manner where calligraphy, with symbolic figures and signs, forms part of the graphic composition.
