Mohanna Durra
Jordan, b.1938-2021
The precursor of contemporary Jordanian art, Durra was the first artist to go on a government scholarship to study abroad. He graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, in 1958. In 1970 he established the Institute of Arts and Music. He was appointed ambassador by the League of Arab States in Tunisia, the former USSR and Egypt. He has been awarded numerous international and Jordanian medals and awards, he was professor of painting and drawing at the Faculty of Arts and Design, at the University of Jordan.
