Seif Wanly
Egypt, b.1906 - 1979
Starting as a self-taught painter, Seif Wanli trained privately at the studio of the Italian painter Atturino Bichi in Alexandria and is known for his theatre, opera, and ballet stage designs and his book illustrations and cartoon drawings. His paintings show bold brush strokes and graded and harmonious colours. One of the early pioneers in modern Egyptian art, he bridged the gap between classicism and modernity.
