Salah Taher
Egypt, b.1911-2007
Salah Taher graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Cairo (1934) and was appointed teacher at the College of Fine Arts (1944). In 1953 he was appointed Director of the Museum of Modern Art in Cairo and in 1955 he became the Director of the Opera House. Since 1955 Taher has taken up abstraction and is one of its pioneers in modern Egyptian art. A constant movement, flowing brush strokes and one-colour gradation distinguish his style while his figures show effects of abstract calligraphic shapes.
